A talented composer, conductor, and community leader with masterful and dynamic performance skills, high exacting standards, and the ability to lead joint performances between the orchestra and the most prominent soloists from not only Uzbekistan but other countries as well; he was an "Honored Artist of Uzbekistan".
Talented composer Eldor Azimov was born in Tashkent in 1945.
He received his education in the violin (under the guidance of Prof. M. Reyson) and conducting (under the guidance of Prof. M. Ashrafiy) departments at the Tashkent State Conservatory.
While still a student, he organized the first chamber orchestra in Central Asia and Kazakhstan, based on an estrada-symphonic orchestra.
In 1974, this orchestra gained the official status of the Uzbek State Television and Radio ensemble.
During his 20 years of creative activity leading the orchestra, E. Azimov recorded about 200 works by Uzbek composers for the radio's "golden fund" and created over thirty large discs containing works of various eras and styles. He actively participated in general concerts of the Composers' Union in the cities of Moscow, Kemerovo, Dushanbe, Tashkent, Kaluga, and Klin.
" From 1978 to 1983, as artistic director of the State Television and Radio musical ensembles, he organized performances for the Maqom performers' ensemble, the Uyghur Maqom ensemble, the chamber orchestra, and choir at International Musicology Symposiums held in Samarkand, as well as performances by Uzbek jazz groups at festivals held in Tbilisi and Yaroslavl.
In 1989, E. Azimov was awarded the honorary title of "Honored Artist of Uzbekistan" for his vibrant creative and organizational work.
In 1994, he assembled a team of like-minded musicians and founded the "Turkiston" chamber orchestra, which contributed significantly to the art of Uzbekistan and its concert life.
The conductor's skill, energy, performance mastery, and high exacting standards attracted the most prominent soloists from not only Uzbekistan but also other countries to perform with the orchestra.
The orchestra's vast repertoire, which included works by classical composers as well as some musical works by contemporary composers, enabled him to conduct monographic concerts featuring the works of "Bach", "Vivaldi", "Mozart", and "Saint-Saëns". It also facilitated the organization and holding of the "Mozart and His Contemporaries" chamber music festival with the participation of piano duets from Tashkent and Moscow, as well as participation in the concerts of the "Ilhom-XX" international festival of contemporary music and theater in 1998, 1999, and 2000. In 1990, he was invited to Delhi as the conductor of a symphony concert for UNESCO’s jubilee celebrations dedicated to the birth anniversary of P. I. Tchaikovsky.
In 2000, the "Turkiston" orchestra, under E. Azimov's leadership, went on a concert tour in South Korea.
